Are We
Preserving Hawaii’s Resources?
Hawaii is a place of paradise that has many resources that it draws from to
keep it running and beautiful. The
Main resources are water, agriculture, technology, and Tourism. Hawaii’s resources have been depleting
quickly so the citizens of Hawaii have been working tirelessly to save our
resources. But our resources are still vanishing slowly. We need to
stop using all of our resources. Our state is dying slowly but hopefully
we can stop it before it is to late.
We
are trying to save Hawaii by using renewable energy. Hawaii started
to put up renewable energy like and solar panels. This helps our economy
save money and save the o zone layer above Hawaii. This also helps us
because we use less imported oil so money can stay in Hawaii. We also
started to use wind farms. This
will let us harness the winds energy and help power Hawaii cleanly. By installing solar panels in 20 years
will save Aiea high school an estimated $150,000 in electricity costs.
They put up a wind farm in the Big Island, Maui and on Oahu. This will
save our islands a lot of money because they also plan to put under water
cables so people on other islands can get energy. The renewable is a
small portion of what we need to do we need to malama the aina or care for the
land.
There are many groups around Hawaii trying to help the aina (land) so we
can live here for a long time. There is one group that is called Malama
Maunaloa they take care of the ocean. One way they help the ocean by
taking out invasive seaweed and plant native seaweed. The seaweed that is some of the most harmful seaweed here is
the Gorilla ogo, prickly seaweed and the leather mudweed. We need to remove them because they
take over the native seaweed and the fish wont eat them so we need to remove
the seaweed. If we don’t the fish
are going to move away because the native algae they eat is gone and all that’s
left is the invasive seaweed. Also
the seaweed that they pick is recycled in to compost to help local farmers so
nothing is wasted. There is also the Department of Land and Natural
resources. They help fund projects to help Hawaii stay the same and
preserve it. They also plan projects to preserve our natural and
irreplaceable resources. There was
a government stimulus grant that hires people to pick invasive seaweed for an
8-hour shift and in a year they picked 3 million pounds of seaweed. Its
good that there are people trying to savor Hawaii but there are people who
don’t.
Some people don’t try to preserve Hawaii and aren’t changing their destructive
life. Some people still use a lot of fossil fuels. They mainly use fossil
fuels for gas. 90% of Hawaii still
uses fossil fuels for energy like transport regular electricity and more.
We some people hurt our community by littering. There are many people who
litter Hawaii. There are also people who graffiti on our buildings and
make it look dirty. From people trashing Hawaii we go to the conclusion.
In
conclusion I think we are preserving Hawaii well but people are still not
trying to preserve it. So it is important that we get more people to
preserve Hawaii. We can help by
going to help out community service outings. Hawaii needs to start switching to renewable energy or find
a way to save money so money can stay local. But these are little things we can do to help Hawaii stay
alive.

Rough Draft
Mililani Mauka’s
Creek
Whenever
I go to Mililani Mauka’s creek my worries go away because of all the good
memories I’ve had with my friends that I haven’t seen in over 2 months. I
remember when we first went down in breaks to catch fish and hang out.
We
arrived at the slope leading down to the creek. The sky was a rich sky blue that was mixed into a beautiful
jagged line as it touched the sky-high trees. After we admire the breathtaking view as we plunged into the
dark cave formed by the trees. As
we made our way down the slippery mud by going inch by inch step by step while
being tickled by irritating California grass. Made me feel at home because I love to hike and get dirty.
Then you get down to the water and
went downstream and ventured on to the most relaxing spot. This is the spot that after all the
things that loosen all of my worries washes away in the creeks water. It has a beautiful little waterfall
that goes into a very small but deep lake. This makes all of my worries go away because you can swim in
the smooth water while a light breeze is on your body, a soothing waterfall
crashing on the big pond, and the soothing sound of the wind stroking the
leaves makes me want to melt into the water and flow away. I wish I could stay there all day with
no responsibilities or worries about the horrors of life.
As I exit the soothing creek I am
ready to face the cruel struggles of the world. The creek is a place where I can relax and be myself and
escape my life and go into a little world where everything is about me.

remember when we first went down in breaks to catch fish and hang out.
One
day I woke up and knew that I was going down to hang out with my friends and
fish. I rushed to eat my delicious
toast not savoring a bite because it was so wonderful and I was rushing to go
to the creek. So I went to around my house bare foot on the rocky cement
gathering traps, sunscreen, buckets, towel, and net. When I finally got
everything together I put my swim shorts on and a faded shirt that smelled like
tide, then brushed my teeth till it was white. After I left to go to Mililani
Middle School where I will meet my friends then walk to the creek near Mililani
Ike Elementary.

Essay
Every
time I think about Filipino food my mind goes straight to my Dad’s Banana
Lumpia. The way its tasty banana
covered in brown sugar and wrapped in a crispy lumpia wrap. First you start by putting the sweet
banana in brown sugar. Then you
wrap it elegantly in a lumpia wrap.
Lastly you fry it in sizzling oil while all of the wonderful flavors mix
and turns it into Banana Lumpia.
When
I smell Banana Lumpia the wonderful smell makes me go into another world. The scrumptious smell makes my mouth
water and makes me remember good times.
It makes me remember of all of the times we celebrated special times I
shared with my family at my grandfathers house, where we played and told stories
about our lives.
Banana
Lumpia reminds me of when I was young and we went to my step grandmother’s
birthday my dad would make our family Lumpia he makes it different a special

and he cooks it right to the peak of perfection. But its special because he doesn’t make it too much now so
every time I eat it rolls a delicious banana on to my mouth. “Dad what does
cooking Banana Lumpia remind you of?” said I “ It reminds me of my mom making
it when I was young and it was it was good” my dad said the thing is this is
special to him because his mother died when he was young. Its also special to
me because my grandmother made it for my dad and I never meet my grandmother so
I kind of feel a connection to my grandmother when I eat it.
This
is why my Dads Banana Lumpia is special to me because of the special times to
