Roots and Recipes Essay

“Dad what does cooking Banana Lumpia remind you of?” said I
“ It reminds me of my mom making it when I was young and it was it was good” my dad said the thing is this is special to him because his mother died when he was young.
“Do you like cooking?” I said
“yes but I don’t like cleaning up?” said my Dad
“How come you like to cook Banana Lumpia?” I asked
“I am picky on how it is cooked so I make it myself so I can be satisfied?” My Dad answered.
Every time I think about Filipino food my mind goes straight to my Dad’s Banana Lumpia.  The way its tasty banana covered in brown sugar and wrapped in a crispy lumpia wrap.  First you start by putting the sweet banana in brown sugar.  Then you wrap it elegantly in a lumpia wrap.  Lastly you fry it in sizzling oil while all of the wonderful flavors mix and turns it into Banana Lumpia.
When I smell Banana Lumpia the wonderful smell makes me go into another world.  The scrumptious smell makes my mouth water and makes me remember good times.  It makes me remember of all of the times we celebrated special times I shared with my family at my grandfathers house, where we played and told stories about our lives.
This is why my Dads Banana Lumpia is special to me because of the special times to me.

  1. Just add a few more sensory details, and maybe a memory or two, and you'll be good to go!

  3. You need to incorporate your interviews into your story. And use only the answers your dad gave you that relate to your story. You are also very broad in all your descriptions of things. For example " makes me remember good time" need to explain what good times, "times we celebrated special times" what special times. You need to be more specific. Please read over your work and do a better job adding your specific memories and how lumpia is special to you.
